Japan European Union free trade agreement and new geografical indications: food, wine and spirits

The European Commission decision n. 2023/1313 of 22 June 2023 “ approving, on behalf of the European Union, the amendments to Annex 14-B of the Agreement between the European Union and Japan for an Economic Partnership…” entitles the  Joint Committee (for the free trade agreement EU-Japan) to:

  1. Modify the annex 14-B of the Economic Parthership Agreement (EPA) between the European Union and the Japan;
  2. Add under the protection of the intellectual property rights the following European geografical indications (GI): Korčulansko maslinovo ulje, Époisses, Mont d’Or, Vacherin du Haut-Doubs, raclette de Savoie, Lakonia, Cotechino Modena, Finocchiona, Limone di Siracusa, Ajo Morado de Las Pedroñeras, Arzúa-Ulloa, Melocotón de Calanda, Queso de Valdeón, Queso de Murcia al vino, San Simón da Costa, Vinagre de Jerez, Pálinka, Grozdova rakya ot Karnobat, Bourg/Côtes de Bourg/Bourgeais, Cassis, Cassis de Bourgogne, Entre-deux-Mers, Fronsac, Listrac-Médoc, Moulis/Moulis-en-Médoc, Pălincă, Kras, Kras, Ribeiro;
  3. Add under the protection of the intellectual property rights the following Japanese geografical indications (GI): 佐賀, Saga, 大阪 Osaka, 長野 Nagano, 長野 Nagano, 山形 Yamagata; 新潟, Niigata; 滋賀, Shiga, 大口れんこん, Okuchi Renkon, 氷見稲積梅,Himi Inazumiume, 種子島安納いも,TANEGASHIMA, ANNOU SWEETPOTATO, Tanegashima Annou Imo, 飛騨牛, Hidagyu, Hida Beef, 伊達のあんぽ柿, DATE NO ANPO GAKI, サヌキ白みそ, Sanuki shiro miso, たむらのエゴマ油, Tamura no egoma oi.
